Olivier Messmer

Olivier Messmer brings over 20 years of extensive experience in sustainable tourism development, demonstrating a proven track record of success in international contexts. Currently, he serves as Team Lead for the Swiss Tourism for Sustainable Development project (St4SD) in Vietnam, an initiative funded by SECO. In this role, Olivier focuses on enhancing the Vietnamese sustainable tourism industry by fostering public-private dialogue, advocating for policy reforms, upgrading top and middle management human resources in the hospitality sector and developing community-based tourism experiences and destinations. Before, he held some important positions in development projects, such as the Chief of Party for the USAID-IMCT (Integrated Management of Cultural Tourism) Activity in Egypt, leader of the USAID My Armenia Cultural Tourism Heritage Program. Throughout his career, Olivier has effectively managed complex tourism programs and led significant reform efforts. In Morocco, he championed the adoption of new regulations and policies to boost visitation and private investment in protected areas. His ability to reconcile conflicting visions for tourism development among government entities and the private sector has been a hallmark of his work, successfully navigating challenges in both Morocco and Egypt.
